IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL ENTITIES

Do you want to know whether you are concerned by NIS 2 as an important or essential entity? You will find all the necessary information to carry out the assessment and declare your status in one or more countries of the European Union.

Wich entity are you ?

Important entities (IE)

You may be designated as an Important Entity if you meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • workforce > 50 employees
  • annual turnover > EUR 10 million
  • profit > EUR 10 million

Important Entities may belong to any of the 18 NIS 2 sectors. They represent the majority of entities covered by NIS 2.

Essential entities (EE)

Essential Entities must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • workforce > 250 employees
  • annual turnover > EUR 50 million
  • annual balance sheet total > EUR 43 million
  • You are designated as an Operator of Essential Services (OES) under NIS 1

Essential Entities belong exclusively to highly critical NIS 2 sectors.

Special Case

According to the principle of the chain of responsibility, you may be designated as an Important Entity or an Essential Entity regardless of your size or turnover if:

  • You are the sole provider of an essential service
  • You are part of the supply chain of an Important or Essential Entity that could be compromised through you
