Genetec, a member of SPAC Alliance, has published its 2026 State of Physical Security report. Based on responses from 7,368 professionals across six regions worldwide, this latest edition highlights the technological developments and trends reshaping the physical security ecosystem.
This report illustrates the importance of adopting a comprehensive, long-term approach to security. As organizations work towards compliance with NIS 2, the CER Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act, the market is moving towards an approach championed by SPAC Alliance and its members:
- Physical security systems are becoming increasingly connected and interoperable. More than 70% of respondents now use unified or integrated video surveillance and access control solutions.
- The migration away from obsolete technologies is becoming a priority. 40% of manufacturers and channel partners now consider compliance a key driver for replacing existing systems.
- Users are looking for solutions that are more open, sustainable and scalable. Open architecture is a key selection criterion for 73% of the end users surveyed.
- Artificial intelligence is rapidly gaining ground: interest among end users has doubled, but adoption is still being held back by the lack of clear frameworks for use cases, governance and data protection.
Beyond the technical response, other factors must also be considered, including limiting vendor lock-in, maintaining effective control over data and assessing the long-term assurances provided by suppliers.
