IBM publishes an annual survey on entities that have experienced a data breach. With around 500 in-depth analyses each year, this document is a must-read and provides compelling reasons to take action on every aspect of security, starting with the essential connection between the digital and physical realms.

Since 2020, an average of 8.3% of data breaches have been caused by physical security failures.

As we must assume that every ICT product could eventually be compromised after an intrusion, hybrid attacks are among the most costly.

Additional useful information includes advice on where to save money and limit the consequences of an attack: investing in internal training, effective HR management, and conducting penetration tests.

Another fact that might bring a smile to European entities, who sometimes struggle to comply with regulations or standards: in Europe, the average cost of a data breach is half that of the US or EMEA regions!
