On the occasion of the Calypso Networks Association (CNA) General Assembly and the Mobco exhibition, SPAC Alliance met with several of its members and took part in a demonstration showcasing the convergence of ticketing, smart mobility and high-security access control.
A joint ticketing and access control use case by SPAC Alliance and CNA
The technologies used for ticketing and access control address many of the same challenges: user identification, secure management of access rights, equipment interoperability and protection of data exchanges.
Our Secretary General, Mickaël Wajnglas, joined the CNA booth to demonstrate how these two ecosystems can be integrated into a unified user journey. This was brought to life through a demonstration combining:
- Calypso credential technology;
- fare validators from the ticketing ecosystem;
- STid and SpringCard readers;
- the secure SSCP communication protocol.
This practical use case demonstrated how a single credential and interoperable technologies can provide access to different services while maintaining a high level of security throughout the user journey.
Security and interoperability enabling new use cases
The convergence of mobility and access control opens up a wide range of possibilities, from access to public transport and buildings to workplaces and urban services.
For operators and system integrators, this approach makes it possible to develop more open architectures in which equipment from different technology environments can communicate seamlessly. For users, it helps simplify the overall experience by reducing the number of credentials or applications required.
However, this convergence must be supported by robust authentication mechanisms, encryption and key management, together with secure protocols protecting communications between readers, validators and central systems. In this demonstration, this role was fully performed by the SSCP protocol.
These issues are becoming increasingly important as the European regulatory framework continues to evolve, particularly through the NIS 2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which were widely discussed throughout the exhibition.

This participation reflects SPAC Alliance’s commitment to bringing the ecosystem together around interoperability and open solutions that simplify user experiences while maintaining a high level of security.
